I hadn’t been home for a while, and since the annual Lent festival was going down, I just couldn’t stay away. During the festival my little hometown of Maribor lights up and comes to life. Next to the festivities that take place, there is also a ton of sports events, that use the limelight of the proceedings for their showcase. One of these, which has been taking place anually for a decade already is the Maribor rally.

The rally consists of seven trails that take place in the surrounding hills of the city. It also includes a speed trial that runs for 13.5 km in the area surrounding the little village of Gaj. It was there that I decided to take a few rally pictures. A tricky intersection with an nasty curve tinted with gravel would provide for a exceptional spectacle.

I have been shooting action sports for a while but I never actually came around to doing a rally shoot, even off duty :P. It was nice to try to catch the vehicles and their drivers in focus while maintaining motion.

All in all it was great and went quite well. We even had some action in the trenches. Fortunately no one was hurt.
